Our thoughts

Devoted friends

Earlier this month I read about the devotion of pets to their owners. First there was the story of the dog who lead the funeral cortege of his elderly owner in to the crematorium in Bury St Edmunds, but the story that really brought a lump to my throat was the one of Ciccio a 12 year old German Shepherd, who even two months after his owners death turns up every day to the church where she used to attend. He then sits and waits in vain in front of the alter of the Santa Maria Assunta Church in the village of San Donaci in the southern region of Puglia.

What can I do with the cremated remains?

Posted Thu 15 Aug 2013

Many people have not even given it a thought. They are so pre-occupied with arranging the funeral that when the question “What would you like to do with the cremated remains of ………..”, comes along, we very often hit a stumbling block, and many a blank face. “I’ve no idea” is a common answer. “What happened to your Mum or Dad’s cremated remains?” we may enquire, – Often, following an embarrassed silence, we get - “They’re still in the bottom of the wardrobe! ”

Graduation Day - July

Last week we were fortunate to have the second university graduation in our family. My youngest daughter gained her degree from Nottingham Trent University. The weather was extremely kind, in truth it was probably too hot for graduation gowns (particularly as we funeral directors know, black is not the best colour to wear when the sun is scorching!).
